Foran Interior Design, a Dallas area interior design firm, just got back from a fantastic trip to the High Point Market in North Carolina. The market is the largest home furnishing market in the world (11.5 million square feet).
Yes, I did say 11.5 million square feet. It may be the largest market of any kind in the world. Good shoes are mandatory. The market is open to retailers and interior designers and is open one week in the spring and one week in the fall. The weather was great and the new furniture pieces and spaces were inspiring. There was so much to see and feel and sit on.. Natural elements heated up the scene with luxury. Soft materials were all over the market. Throws and pillows, upholstered furniture, lighting and rugs all wanted to be touched There were also many buttery suedes and leathers.
There was a mix of warm metals, such as brass, copper and bronze. These molten metals add a touch of sophistication to interiors. We saw a palette of spiced orange and warm grey used together that looked amazing.
We saw a lot less gray this market. Grey was mixed in with other colors, like rich chocolate browns along with dark dramatic finishes. Understated shades of purple were mixed in as accent colors.
There was a lot of deep blue shown at market both as an accent or as the main fabric.
Distinct tribal designs were inspired by traditional African textiles and accents. There were also art-inspired accessories that were inspired by the Cubism period and other early modern art movements.
There were handcrafted pieces that turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. Did you know that area rugs are the fastest-growing home accent category?
