Two story drapery treatments can add drama and excitement to your decorating.
2 story window treatments need to be designed right and you should get professional help from an interior designer. Below are some of the two story draperies I have worked on and how we solved the client’s problems.
This client wanted elegant draperies for her two story great room but wanted them to complement her architecture and not block her view. I designed these sidepanels to frame her windows while allowing maximum view. We decided on a silk fabric and beautiful trim and elegant tassels to give her the sophisticated look she wanted. The top of the drapery curved like the moldings (see below).
The 2 story draperies below are in a casual great room with leather furniture. We decided to use a tied back sidepanel and a cornice with nailhead detail. This is a good example of why you need an interior designer for your two story treatments. As you can see, it is so important to get the scale correct. When you are dealing with a treatment that is 19′ tall you have to be sure you don’t make the cornice too small. The edge of the cornice in the room is 41″ high.
Below is another client’s room where they didn’t want to block their view at all. They have a beautiful view of a pond which they love looking at.
I designed the draperies to be tied back up high with a bishop sleeve. This way the drapery below the bishop sleeve would be very narrow. This time we have a straight top on the 2 story windows, so we used decorative wood poles that matched the finish of their hand rail and cabinets.
In this two story great room we ran a wood pole under the curve of the palladian windows. A muted linen print was used for the fabric. The sidepanels hang straight for a simpler casual look.
As you can see every window and the clients interior design style will affect the design of the window treatment. It is very important to get all the information and details straight so that the 2 story window treatments will add greatly to the look of your room and make the whole room look magnificent.
